BRAZA! is turning 7 and we decided to celebrate doing what we do best, throwing a big freaking dance party! Since our anniversary coincide with NYE, this time we went a little further. We thought you would love to kickoff your new year’s festivities with yo Brazilian family here. Of course, if you’ve been to our events before you know everyone who walks into BRAZA! land is consider Brazilian at heart. So, don’t be shy and join us for a dazzling celebration. You won’t be disappointed 😉

We are also celebrating our most recent production, Antônio Guedes & The Chillaquiles Live at The Chapel CD release. It’s a full 9 track album, which the first early birds will get for free. If you got here too late, you can still get a copy at the event or at our store, anytime. This won’t be available anywhere else, though.

/// Lineup ///

Antônio Guedes & The Chilaquiles is a funk-rock-disco-ska-jam-pop band from San Francisco, CA. The lead singer, Antônio Guedes, brings forward various Brazilian influences into his compositions, blending it with others from around the globe, like Afrobeat, American soul, and Latin Jazz, with a psychedelic music twist that suggests to the audience Sergio Mendes, Jerry Garcia, Jorge Ben and Fela Kuti could all be playing in the same band.

The group was founded in 2012. After a few remarkable shows, they stopped performing due to Guedes’ return to Brazil, where he was living for two years. Not too long ago, in 2015, making his way back up to North American shores, Antônio decided to bring The Chillaquiles band back in action, along with his party/production company BRAZA!. Both band and party have been catching the ears (and the feet) of a fast growing fanbase by producing prestigious nights of funky tropical gatherings, which in the past have awarded him for Hottest Monthly Party by SF Weekly readers.

/// Opening Band ///

Hailing from West Oakland, Maracatu Pacifico is a community-based performance group that brings Afro-Brazilian maracatu music and dance from Northeastern Brazil to the SF Bay Area.

Maracatu Pacifico was founded as Bateria Lucha and Maracatu Luta under former director Derek Wright in the early 2000s, playing at the huge anti-war marches in the run up to the Iraq war. The group was reborn as Maracatu Pacifico in 2012 under the leadership of current director Eric Hoffman, who has continued the group’s value for community and personal development through the study and performance of maracatu. Our community is a very diverse group united in our passion for this music genre.
